What is Manchester Sport and Leisure Trust?
Manchester Sport and Leisure Trust (MSLT) manages an extensive portfolio of sport and leisure facilities throughout Manchester. These facilities range from swimming pools and community leisure centres to the world class Commonwealth Games 2002 legacy facilities. We are a registered charity and a non-profit distributing organisation, so any profit made is reinvested back into the business for the continual benefit of the local community.
Are you part of Manchester City Council?
No, we are a separate organisation, but we do work in partnership with the Council and receive funding from them to help run the facilities and activities.
Where is Manchester Sport and Leisure Trust's main office?
The Trust's main office is at Manchester National Squash Centre, Sportcity, although we do have staff based at all of our centres.
Who are Serco?
Serco Leisure Manchester are our managing agents who operate the MAC and 10 of our Community Leisure Centres for us.
Are all of the Trust's facilities open to the public?
Yes, all of our facilities are open to the public including all of the world-class facilities at Sportcity.
Do I have to become a member or join to use the facilities?
No, you can pay as you play at each visit. If you would like to sign up for membership of the fitness suites/gyms then we also offer some very competitive monthly rates. Further information is shown in the Where Can I Go? section of this website.
Are the centres suitable for access by disabled users?

Yes, most of our centres can be accessed by disabled users. In some of our pools, pool hoists are available for customers with a physical disability to enter and exit the pool during public swim sessions. Please contact your chosen centre before visiting to check the facilities available.

Am I eligible for free swimming?

Swimming at Manchester Leisure Centres is free of charge for Manchester residents only ages 16 and under during all school holidays and for those aged 60 and above during all public swimming sessions. To enjoy free swimming, please complete a registration form from the FREE swimming page and bring it to the centre on your first visit.  A parent/guardians signature is required for those aged 16 and under, proof of age is required at the time of registration. Please note that swimming lessons and aquatone sessions are not included in this scheme.

Is there car parking available?

Yes, car parking is available at all leisure centres. Please contact your chosen centre before visiting to check the parking facilities available.

Do I have to be a member to use the leisure facilities?

No, you do not need to be a member to use any of Manchester Sport and Leisure Trust facilities. Activities are available on a ‘pay as you go’ basis as well as value for money membership packages.

To book for activities, such as workout classes, racket sports and swimming lessons you simply need to become a ‘Pay As You Go’ Booking Member. This can be achieved by contacting reception via the telephone or during your visit to the leisure facility or on-line via the ‘Pay As You Go’ membership page.

How do I make a booking?

Bookings can be made in person, over the phone or online. In order to book activities, we require basic personal information (Name / Gender / Age / Ethnicity / Postcode / Contact Tel No.) to set-up your account on our system.

Once registered, you will be issued with a unique membership number in order to make all of your bookings.

On-line: bookings can be made 8 days in advance. To book activities on-line, select either ‘What Can I do?’ or ‘Where Can I Go?’ from the left hand side menu to choose your activity and / or leisure centre and then click-on Bookings & Timetables. If you have never booked on-line before, see details below.  In person / over phone: bookings can be made 7 days in advance. For more information, click here.

What happens if I have used your facilities before and have a membership card, but have never booked an activity / class on-line?

On the reverse of your membership card (the blue one), you will find your membership number / booking number.

1. Choose your preferred centre within ‘Where Can I Go?’, 2.Click on Bookings & Timetables and select the on-line log-in and registration button, 3. You will be a NEW USER to on-line bookings to register on your first visit, follow the on-screen instructions to enter your email address and create a password then click the blue register button. 4. You will receive a verification email to the email address supplied. When you receive this email follow the instructions and click the link provided (you will have 24 hours to verify from the link provided before it expires and you will need to re-register). 5. Once you have clicked the link and confirmed your password, you will receive a second email to complete the registration process and you are now ready to book classes / activities on-line.

The FIRST TIME you use your on-line booking account, your ‘My Home’ page will open. Underneath ‘Already a Member’ click ‘Connect to your existing membership’ and on the next screen enter the required information (your existing membership no. and at least one other form of ID) and click process. You will receive confirmation on the next screen that your membership has been successfully connected. Click continue to start booking classes and activities. Please note: you can access your account by clicking MY ACCOUNT on the main home-page to make any future on-line bookings.

If I have never visited your facilities before and have never booked an activity on-line, how do I start?

1. From the main home-page select your preferred centre from ‘Where Can I go?’ (if you’re not sure of your nearest centre, use the Where to Find Us map on the right side) or choose your activity from ‘What Can I Do?’. 2. Select Bookings & Timetables from the drop-down menu. Before you can book classes / activities on-line, you will need to register by clicking the Online Login & Registration button. On the log-in page, you will be required to set-up as a new user, so please click the ‘register’ link. Once clicked, you will be asked to enter a valid email address and create a unique password of your choice. You will need to agree to the Terms and Conditions to proceed. Once you have entered all information, click register. You will receive a verification email to the email address supplied. When you receive this email follow the instructions and click the link provided (you will have 24 hours to verify from the link provided before it expires and you will need to re-register). 5. Once you have clicked the link and confirmed your password, you will receive a second email to complete the registration process and you are now ready to book classes / activities on-line.

Underneath ‘Not Already a Member’ click ‘Activate online bookings’ and on the next screen you will be asked ton confirm you are not already a  member. Click NO. And then click ‘create profile’. In order to book activities, we require basic personal information (Name / Gender / Age / Ethnicity / Postcode / Contact Tel No.) to set-up your account. Please complete your profile as thoroughly as possible and click ‘save profile’. You will be asked one more time to confirm you are not already a  member. Click NO. On the next page, click the blue ‘sign-up’ button to confirm that you’re registering for Bookings Only. You will be redirected to your account home-page to start booking classes and activities by clicking ‘make a booking’. Please note: you can access your account by clicking MY ACCOUNT on the main home-page to make any future on-line bookings.

How do I cancel a booking / activity?

Cancellations can be made in person, on the phone or on-line. Please ensure you are fully aware of our policy. To view our full Bookings and Cancellations Policy click here. TO CANCEL ONLINE: ensure you are cancelling within the required notice period highlighted in our policy. 1. Click on MY ACCOUNT, 2. Log-in using your details, 3. Select view / amend my bookings from the left hand menu, 4. Click on the activity you wish to cancel and select ‘cancel booking’, 5. Click to confirm and you will receive email notification that you have successfully cancelled. Please note, if your cancellation is not within the required notice period you will be charged the full fee price for the activity in question. This applies to all memberships, including those who receive workout classes within their membership type.

Can I sign-up / purchase a membership on-line?

Yes, a range of memberships are available on-line. Choose your preferred membership type from the left-hand memberships menu and then select the centre you wish to join and the activities you want to include to find the membership best suited to you. 

Are there lockers available?

Yes, swimming, fitness and health suite lockers accept £1 coins and are returnable. There are coin locker keys to purchase at reception in selected facilities to ensure you will have access to locker facilities each time you visit.

Can I buy clothing and equipment at the leisure centre?

Yes, the majority of leisure centres provide a range of products. Whether they are goggles, swim costumes, fun inflatable for the swimming pool, accessories for racket sports or water bottles, towels, kit bags for the fitness suite; there is a range available for you to view on our on-line retail shop available. Take advantage of 10% off your purchases by inputting the discount code ACTIVEAW12at checkout!

I have never been to a gym before

Consult your doctor before participating in any activity. Book an appointment with a gym instructor who will demonstrate how to use equipment safely and correctly to suit your needs. Wear appropriate footwear and clothing. Useful tips as follows: wear lose, comfortable leisure clothes, including trainers. No jeans / combat trousers or shoes. Remember to bring water with you and drink regularly before, during and after your workout. Bring a towel with you each visit and don’t forget your £1 coin as all personal belongings / valuables are to be stored in lockers provided. And remember, if you’re not sure about anything – ask a member of staff.

I have never been to a gym / pool before, can I try before committing?

Yes, we have a try before you buy offer, which allows you to access the gym or pool for one day to see if you like them. To take advantage of this offer, simply contact your preferred centre who will take a few personal basic details and book you in so we know when you will be arriving.

Are the gym instructors qualified?

Yes, all gym instructors are qualified.

What clothing does my child need to wear for their activity?

It is recommended that your child wears clothing that is relevant to the activity they will be taking part in. For example tracksuit, trainers and t-shirt for multi-sports; swimming costume for water activities. If you’re unsure, please ask a member of staff or contact your chosen leisure centre directly.

Do children need to bring anything with them to school holiday activities?

Packed lunch, pocket money, swimming costume/trunks, any medicine or inhalers. Each activity has its own booking form with further details. Please check with the centre / coordinator when you book or click school holiday

What is etiquette for using the Fitness Suite?

Fitness Suite Etiquette

  • All users of the gym are required to complete an induction and a PAR-Q medical questionnaire.  
  • All personal belongings are to be stored in the lockers provided.
  • Appropriate clothing and footwear for the activity must be worn.
  • Before commencing your workout, please remember to sign in.
  • If you are unsure how to use a piece of equipment, ask an instructor for help.
  • Bring a towel with you on each visit and wipe down equipment after use.
  • At peak times, use may be limited to 15 minutes per piece of equipment. This is at the
    discretion of an instructor, but please be considerate to other users.
  • Remember to bring water with you and drink regularly before, during and after your
    workout to avoid dehydration.
What is the etiquette for using the Swimming Pool?

Swimming Pool Etiquette

  • Shower before entering the pool
  • Babies must wear swim nappies
  • Swim within your ability – use equipment and buoyancy aids if required
  • Do not swim if feeling unwell
  • Inform a lifeguard if you have any medical conditions
  • Look out for yourself and others while in the pool
  • Be aware of danger - sudden pool depths or slippery surfaces
  • Listen out for the emergency alarms or lifeguard instructions
What is the etiquette for using the Workout Classes?

Workout Studio Etiquette

  • There must be a minimum of 2 people for a class to take place.
  • Please turn up for your class in plenty of time, once the warm up has commenced, late arrivals will not be permitted.
  • All mobile phones must be switched off.
  • Appropriate clothing and footwear for the activity must be worn.
  • Please use the dry changing area and lockers provided for all personal belongings.
  • Please consult a doctor before participating in any activity. If you are pregnant or have any medical conditions, you must make your instructor aware of this.
  • Drink plenty of water to avoid dehydration.
  • Please book onto classes in advance of your attendance
What is the etiquette for using the Health Suite?

Health Suite Etiquette

  • Shower before entering the health suite
  • Appropriate swimwear must be worn at all times – please note that no underwear or external clothing is permitted
  • Cosmetics/henna are not permitted in the health suite area
  • Shaving is not permitted in the health suite area
  • Inform a lifeguard if you have any medical conditions
  • Look out for yourself and others while in the pool
  • Listen out for the emergency alarms or lifeguard instructions
What is the Manchester Leisure Pass (MLP)?

The Manchester Leisure Pass (MLP) is free to get. Once obtained it entitles residents, living within the area covered by Manchester City Council, to a discount at their local leisure facilities. Discounts are variable depending on time of day and activity. Please contact your local centre direct to determine the exact level of discount and savings. Manchester Leisure Pass prices will be highlighted on each centre page with MLP next to the pricing. To qualify for a Manchester Leisure Pass, you must be over the age of 16 years and reside within the Manchester City Boundaries. All applicants must provide a passport sized photograph and show proof of residence. The accepted forms of identification are: Driving or Television Licence, Domestic Rates or Water Rates Bills, Official Rent Book or Card (Housing benefits cheques will NOT be accepted as proof of residence), Student Identification or Library Card (complete with address), Nurses Identification Card (complete with address). Manchester Leisure Pass discounts are not always available during specific sessions such as adult only sessions and lane swimming. Please contact your local leisure centre for details. The Manchester Leisure Pass is non transferable and is only applicable to the holder.
