Manchester Sport and Leisure Trust are proud to work in harmony with many National Governing Bodies of Sport and key partners:
The City Council is the only democratically elected and accountable body in the city. Our aim is to continue to promote Manchester as an attractive and exciting multicultural city to encourage people to live and settle here, to invest here and to visit.
We aim to improve the health, education, security and quality of life of residents by working with them to promote and support sustainable communities which are safe, friendly and clean, providing opportunities to participate in arts, sport and cultural activities.
Our relationship with the Trust, unique in the UK and cited by Sport England as best practice, strengthens the provision of leisure, sporting and recreational activities for Manchester residents and visitors.
The Trust is responsible for the management, development and operation of the vast majority of our indoor sporting facilities, and we both clearly recognise the unique nature of our venues with regards accommodating sports development and performance programmes alongside and supporting community use.
Manchester City Council retains the overall strategic development of the events programme and works closely with the Trust to ensure programmes and activity support and underpin the promotion of Manchester as 'The City of Sport'.
Sport England is the government agency responsible for creating sporting opportunities in every community.
We will do this by laying the foundations of a world-class community sports system focussed on achieving three ambitions;
1. We want to grow the number of people doing more sport by one million by 2012
2. We will encourage people to keep playing sport with high quality clubs, coaches, facilities and opportunities
3. We will help people from all backgrounds excel by identifying, nurturing and developing talent
